Statement on the Passage of H.R.1 Reconciliation Package and Deep Medicaid Cuts
The Colorado Academy of Family Physicians (CAFP) is deeply disappointed by the final passage of H.R.1, a bill that threatens the health and well-being of countless Coloradans by slashing Medicaid funding and reducing access to affordable coverage. These cuts will have real and lasting consequences for patients, physicians, and communities across our state, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
As this bill becomes law, CAFP reaffirms our unwavering commitment to advocating for accessible, equitable, and high-quality healthcare for all Coloradans. We are especially concerned about the potential downstream impact on physician reimbursement and practice sustainability. We will continue to work at the state and federal levels to defend fair payment for primary care and to preserve the viability of family medicine.
Now more than ever, it is critical that we amplify the voices of Colorado family physicians and patients. We invite our members to share their stories and experiences with us, which can help inform our advocacy and demonstrate the real-world effects of these policy decisions.
This is a difficult moment, but our mission remains unchanged. Together, we will continue to fight for a healthcare system that values primary care, supports patients, and strengthens communities.
