CAFP Doctor of the Day Program Starts Up Again in January
Doctor of the Day is our unique volunteer opportunity with state lawmakers to highlight what family physicians are all about. Volunteers spend the day at the Colorado State Capitol, where they provide consultation and urgent medical care to legislators, Capitol staff and visitors. The legislative session runs from January to May and volunteers can sign up as their schedule allows. Staff will provide you with an update on the legislature’s work on the date you volunteer and you will have the opportunity to watch and listen to legislative proceedings as you wish. Learn more!
How Family Physicians Can Help Patients Whose Food Stamps Are Reduced or Suspended
AAFP doctor Chelsea Faso MD, FAAFP offers her thoughts on the current reduction in SNAP benefits across the country on the AAFP website. “One of the key pieces of information I’ve been guiding both clinicians and patients to is the Neighborhood Navigator tool. It’s a great, interactive tool. At the point of care, we plug in the patient’s ZIP code and we’re able to gather a list of pantries, kitchens, food banks and other resources,” she writes. To read more on the Neighborhood Navigator and Faso’s thoughts on the current SNAP benefit situation, visit the AAFP Voices blog.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness Resumes for PAYE and ICR Income-Driven Repayment Plans
Borrowers with the PAYE and ICR income-driven repayment (IDR) plans can rest easier knowing they’re back on track for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). Following a lawsuit from the American Federation of Teachers, the Department of Education has resumed processing PSLF applications for borrowers on these plans. The department also confirmed these plans will remain eligible for PSLF until they sunset in July 2028, giving borrowers stability while the new Repayment Assistance Plan launches in 2026 and changes to IBR take effect.
