SUMMARY:CAFP Virtual CME: Colorado's Local Public Health System: Structure and Policy Priorities
DESCRIPTION:Join representatives from CALPHO and an LPHA to learn about Colorado’s governmental public health system; review key policy opportunities related to funding\, immunizations\, and food safety; and discuss opportunities for CALPHO and CAFP to work more closely together in service of shared goals. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives: \n\n\n\n\nUnderstand the current decentralized public health system in Colorado\, including the roles played by state and local governments and the foundational health services required of all LPHAs.\n\n\n\nDiscuss recent and upcoming bills and policy topics important to LPHAs\, including a focus on state funding over the past five years.\n\n\n\nCompare needs and goals for both membership groups\, and identify opportunities for partnership and alignment between family physicians and local public health leaders in the year ahead.\n\n\n\n\nCALPHO’s bio:The Colorado Association of Local Public Health Officials (CALPHO) is the professional association representing Colorado’s 56 local public health agencies. Over the past 20 years\, CALPHO has worked to foster a strong\, effective\, and sustainable public health system that promotes and protects health for everyone in Colorado. The organization has three pillars of work: providing member supports\, enhancing partnerships with state agencies and other stakeholders\, and advancing policy and advocacy priorities for local governmental public health. \n\n\n\nSpeaker:Allie Morgan\, Policy Director\, CALPHO and TBD Local Public Health Agency representative: \n\n\n\nAllie Morgan is the Policy Director for the Colorado Association of Local Public Health Officials (CALPHO). She is responsible for supporting public health policy and advocacy needs through research\, analysis\, education\, and training activities focused on state and local government. Allie facilitates the Association’s Policy Committee\, strengthens relationships with key partners\, and builds capacity within LPHAs for policy engagement. She came to CALPHO in 2023 after almost a decade at the Colorado Health Institute. She grew up in Fort Collins and holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government. \n\n\n\n\nClick here to Register

SUMMARY:CAFP Virtual Knowledge Self-Assessment Work Group
DESCRIPTION:The Diabetes ABFM-developed KSA activity focuses on preventing and diagnosing diabetes mellitus\, recognizing the clinical implications of insulin-resistance syndromes\, recognizing and managing microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus\, managing diabetic ketoacidosis and non-ketotic hyperosmolar coma\, nonpharmacologic management of diabetes mellitus\, and pharmacologic management of diabetes mellitus.  \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives:After successful completion of the Diabetes KSA\, the physician will have been exposed to up-to-date content as it relates to hospitalized patients and have an opportunity to close knowledge gaps that existed prior to participation in the Diabetes KSA activity.  \n\n\n\n\n1. After completing the Diabetes KSA\, the physician will be able to close knowledge gaps and have a better understating of pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic management of diabetes mellitus.  \n\n\n\n2. After completing the Diabetes KSA\, the physician will be able to close knowledge gaps\, and have a better understanding of how to recognize and manage microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus.  \n\n\n\n3. After completing the Diabetes KSA\, the physician will be able to close knowledge gaps\, and be able to diagnose and  manage diabetic ketoacidosis and nonketotic hyperosmolar coma.  \n\n\n\n4.
